Sensors

- Sensors makes one of the most necessary systems of a spacecraft. It
will allow the crew to look anywhere else, than out the front window.
These has some different prices, and different advantages.
- Sensors have 6 different ranges, which is all set on the different
type of sensors, but standard systems has these following stats:

000-0.1 KM - DC: -4 - Point Blank
0.1-010 KM - DC: 0 - Short
010-040 KM - Dc: +2 - Medium
040-160 KM - DC: +4 - Long
160-640 KM - DC: +8 - Very Long
640-2560 KM - DC: +16 - Extreme
2560+ KM - Out of Range
Range Explanations

- Point Blank:
The Point Blank is also what is easy visible out the windows of the
starship. Point blank is what the ship can see without giving power
to the sensors. When fighters are in Point Blank range, the fight
will ultimately be a dogfight.
- Short:
Short range determine a “melee”, just outside dogfight range. This
range is ideal for rockets, and shortrange guns. This is also the
range where it is easiest to use sensors, without chance of coliding.
- Medium:
Medium range is the range that no really warships tends to use, since
either they use long range, or they want additional hit chance.
Medium range is a fair range to scan targets, and you can still get
detailed information about the target.
- Long:
Long range is mostly for missiles, and very big guns. Scanning at
long range you can still get some details about the scanned target.
When scanning at long range, you will start having difficulty, because
objects becomes so small when mixed with all the other information from
the sensors.
- Very Long:
At Very Long range, you can still manage to track speed and object size,
but alot of details are lost at this range, and some targeting computers
wont work at this range.
When scanning, you can only know information like: Speed, Direction,
Size and outer layer hardness.
- Extreme:
At extreme range, you cant manage to track speed and object size.
The only thing you really know is there is something there, and
wether or not it is moving, it takes some time to figure the
direction of the movement.

Sensor Modes

- There is 4 different sensor “Scan” modes. Its like a switch, as to
how much power you want to feed to the sensors. The more power fed,
the better the sensors will work, but the easier your own ship will
be detected too. Each mode must be supported by your sensor system.
The Scan modes is as following:

Passive Mode:

Sensors set to passive mode simply receive
information about the immediate vicinity (out to short range).
While not a particular help to locate anything, this helps mask
the ship to hostile sensors.

Scan Mode:

In scan mode, sensors actively send out pulses in all
direction (to a maximum of long range) to gather information about
the ships surroundings. Sensors in scan mode grant a +2 equipment
bonus on the user's skill checks.

Search Mode:

The search mode sweeps a specific fire arc (front,
left, right, or rear) for information, out to a maximum of
extreme range. This grants a +4 equipment bonus on Computer Use
checks made to detect object with sensors.

Focus Mode:

A sensor in focus mode directs its attention to a
precise area or single object up to extreme range. While in
focus mode, a sensor grants a +6 equipment bonus on Computer Use
checks made to detect object.

Misc:

- Different Statistics will determine how easy you are to spot on
other entities sensors. If a pilot does not want to be seen, he/she
have some tricks, the following will be modifiers, enlightened so
you know what to do to stay stealthy.
- Keep sensors on passive: Acquires a +4 DC to being detected.
- Power down: Acquires a +4 DC to being detected.
- Conceal yourself behind an object of similar size: +4 DC to
detection
- Conceal yourself behind an object three sizes larger than
your ship: +10 DC to being detected.

Basic Sensors:

- These sensors are used on most vehicles, not a very capable
sensor array, but sure better than being blind in the dark.
- CL: 1
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, and scan.
- These sensors can only scan to a maximum of Medium range.
- These sensors only gain a maximum of +2 equipment bonus when
scanning.
; Price: 2500

Directed Sensors:

- These sensors are used basicly on fighters.
- CL: 1
- These sensors cant target anything by themselves
They can on the other hand be granted targets by another ship,
which has sensors good enough to target the target.
- These sensors have a *1.5 range of standard sensors.
- These sensors has the modes: Passive and Focus.
; Price: 4000

Standard Sensors:

- These sensors makes the standard platform of most ships, being
able to operate in all modes without heavy power requirements
makes these quite effective.
- CL: 2
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Scan, Search and Focus.
- These sensors work out to Extreme range, on the specific modes
(those that normally allow that).
; Price: 8000

Standard-Scrap Sensors:

- These sensors makes the standard platform on most junk ships.
Almost as good as Standard sensors, these view a little shorter.
- CL: 1
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Scan, Search and Focus.
- These sensors work only out to Long range, on the specific modes
(those that normally allow that, or further).
; Price: 5000

Resistant Sensors:

- These sensors have upgraded abilities to counter-jamming. They
are searching on different spectres, and uses more power doing
so.
- CL: 4
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Scan, Search and Focus.
- These Sensors work out to Extreme range, on the specific modes
(those that normally allow that).
- When not on Passive mode, you inquire a -1 dc to being detected
on another ships sensor.
- +4 DC to be jammed
; Price: 14000

Scout Sensors:

- These sensors were made by a trading guild, looking for the
ability to spot raiders on the sensors, before they could spot
the traders. They did quite a good job too.
- CL: 2
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Scan and Focus.
- These sensors has double the range of standard sensors.
- The Scan mode of these sensors look out to extreme range.
- if you have scan mode or focus mode on, you inquire a -2 dc
to being detected on another ships sensor.
; Price: 22000

Locator Sensors:

- These sensors are made to search for object, the only really
work in one direction.
- CL: 3
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Search and Focus.
- When in Search or Focus mode, the range of these sensors is
tripled, giving effective max range of 1380 km.
- if you have search or focus mode on, you inquire a -2 dc to
being detected on another ships sensor.
; Price: 22000

Stellar Object Mapping Sensors:

- These sensors are made to be an additional unit, only made to
map/scan the surface of large stellar objects. By advanced
sensors, this unit can detect if a planet is habitable, wether
or not the air is breathable, and it also detects wether or not
your able to be within the atmosphere.
You still have to orbit the planet a couple of minutes for all
info to be available
- CL: 3
- Basicly, after scanning you can see almost any information about
the object scanned.
- These sensors has the modes: Passive, Focus.
- When in Focus mode, the range of these sensors extends out to
very extreme distances, this mode times the length you can
focus on an object with 50, so youll be able to see 128.000 km
- if you have focus mode on, you inquire a -30 dc to being
detected on another ships sensor.
- The focus mode only sees class size large or larger on the ship
scale objects. if you want to analyse a medium-small object, it
requires a DC 38 Computer use, if you try to analyse a tiny
object, its a DC 43 Computer use, if you want to analyse a
diminutive object, its DC 50 Computer use.
- This focus mode, when you found an object gives an additional
+20 equipment bonus on computer use checks to find out details
about a specified object, or handling the object on the sensors
in general.
; Price: 38000

Sensor Equipment:

- Each piece of equipment adds 1 CL to the sensors CL. - Each modification can only be added 1 time.

Range Increment

- The range increment is almost a must have on bigger ships, since
the sensor sight range doesnt increase per ship size.
This addon effectively boosts the sensors detection range, by
newfound and advanced detection methods.
- With this modification, a repairsmith will need Knowledge:
Technology (atleast 1 rank) or suffer a -2 penalty to repair.
- Doubles the range of any sensor package its equipped on.
(If the range is multiplied by a preset number from the sensor
like locator sensors, multiply the final result, Example:
Locator sensors have a normal range * 3 scanning range, giving
a total range of 1380 KM at extreme range. With this equipment
upgrade you will multiply this number by 2 and get a 2760 KM
maximum range at extreme range.
; Price: 20000*CL

Equipment Upgrade

- This upgrade features alot of software upgrades, and hardware
upgrades too. It will decrease the difficulty to use the
sensors, and decrease the difficulty to send the information to
other systems.

Class 1:
- Adds a +1 bonus to sensors.
; Price: 5000*CL
Class 2:
- Adds a +2 bonus to sensors.
; Price: 15000*CL
Class 3:
- Adds a +3 bonus to sensors.
; Price: 30000*CL
Class 4:
- Adds a +4 bonus to sensors.
; Price: 51500*CL
