==== Animal Companion ====
== Pet Commands ==
==== Martial Training ==== At 1st level, the ranger gains proficiency with either melee or ranged martial weapons.
==== Wild Empathy (copied from d20srd.org) ==== A ranger can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds her ranger level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result.
The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be able to study each other, which means that they must be within 30 feet of one another under normal conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
A ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but she takes a -4 penalty on the check.
==== Traps ====
The ranger has mastered the art of crafting combat traps. At 1st level, the ranger may construct up to two traps, selected from the list below.
The number of traps a ranger can construct and carry during a day increases given at the ranger table.
By using a standard action, the ranger may place a trap in his own square or any square adjecent to him. He will never trigger his own traps by stepping on them or by approximation.
These traps are fragile and some are even volatile. To make sure they don't spring at the wrong time, the ranger must dismantle his traps and reconstruct them after 24 hours.
This take 10 minutes per trap the ranger wants to construct and carry along.
A ranger may choose to construct more of the same trap to gain more uses of a certain trap.
DC equal to 10 + ½ class level + intelligence modifier.
There is a distinction between grenades, traps and turrets.
== Grenades == Grenades are small metal containers with rigged trigger mechanics that can be thrown up to 30 ft as a ranged touch attack. You produce 3 grenades per preperation.
Trap | Effect |
---|---|
Blast Grenades | Upon impacting its target, the grenade deals 1d6+½ your class level piercing damage. Anyone adjacent to the square of impact may make a reflex save for half damage. If you target a creature but miss with the attack, the creature is entitled the reflex save, otherwise it is not. |
Smoke Grenades | Upon impacting its target, the grenade explodes into a smoke cloud that covers each square adjacent to the target. In the covered area, creatures have 20% concealment, and vision is reduced to 5 ft. |
Sticky Grenades | Upon impaction its target, the grenade explodes and covers all adjacent squares with a sticky substance that entangles all within. Creatures are entitled a reflex save to avoid the initial effect. When a creature ends it turn or walks into the area, it must make another reflex save or become entangled. To break free from the entangling substance, you must succeed on a strength check or escape artist check. |
== Traps ==
Trap | Effect |
---|---|
Flamewheel | You gain 1 use of this trap per construction. When an enemy starts his turn on or walks into the square of Flamewheel, the trap springs and starts swirling around with jets of fire. All enemy creatures takes 3d6 fire damage (reflex halves) as long as they remain adjacent to the trap. The trap spins for 3 rounds, then falls apart. |
Bear Trap | You gain 1 use of this trap per construction. When an enemy starts his turn on or walks into the square of Bear Trap, the trap springs and snares the creature. The creature is immobilized. During its turn it may use a standard action to break free of the trap by succeeding on a strength check or escape artist check. |
== Turrets ==
Trap | Effect |
---|---|
Crossbow Turret | You gain 1 use of this trap per construction. Place the turret in a square adjacent to you and choose a direction. Whenever an enemy starts its turn within or walks into a 60 ft. line of the traps direction, the crossbow fires. It can fire up to 3 times before breaking. |
==== Modifications ====
At 2nd level, and ever even level thereafter, the ranger starts crafting special modifications to costumize his traps.
Select a benefit from the list below and apply it to one of your traps. Each modification can only be applied once to a trap unless otherwise noted.
Modification | Effect |
---|---|
Launch Trap | Increase the range at which you can plant a trap or throw a grenade by 15 ft. This modification can be chosen up to two times. |
Extra Uses | You gain an extra use of a trap or a turret, or two extra uses of a grenade. |
Grenade Cluster | Can only be applied to grenades. Place a grenade cluster in a square adjacent to you. Whenever an enemy starts its turn on or walks into the trap, it springs and releases all 3 grenades from that contruction and throws them up to 10 ft. in different directions. |
Grenade Turret | You may combine a grenade and a turret. You place it like the turret but instead of firing bolts, it fires the grenades. It can fire up to the number of grenades you can prepare with one construction. |
